We created this animation to outline the discussion of the Greater Amsterdam Area in a playful and entertaining way.
Welcome to Greater Amsterdam
Working with Stad-Forum, an independent think tank that advises the Amsterdam’s city council on urban development, we created this film to outline the Greater Amsterdam Area, which is more complicated than it may seem.
Stad-Forum investigates and maps the influences and feelings of Amsterdam outside their city borders. Basically questioning themselves: How big is Amsterdam actually? Apart from the city borders. A question that lead to an interesting discussion.
We were asked to translate this somewhat vague, but sensitive subject into an illustrative animated film.
As this is an ongoing discussion, we decided to style the film like a work in progress, rather than a finished project. A large part of the film is shot in a ‘making of style’, showing us, the creators, on camera animating the shots. This also adds to understanding the human proportions of the production.
