Radio 5
Series of TV commercials we created for Dutch radio station Radio 5. All set elements and characters were made with paper and animated in stop motion.
NPO Radio 5 is a Dutch public-service network radio station operated by NPO. Its main format is classic hits from the 1950s and beyond, with a much stronger emphasis from the 1960s to 1980s.
We were asked by ad agency XXS (Amsterdam) to create tiny home settings inside a vintage radio. Therefore we first built a scaled-up model of the radio, big enough to be able to animated the characters inside. The characters are made with layers of colored paper. For each frame of film we made a new character, therefore creating the illusion of movement.
We made the lights inside the room work for real, because it would otherwise get too dark in the back, and they help to create a more homely atmosphere.
